Kylian Mbappé, the next France captain?
Hugo Lloris has hung up his international gloves up and now the captain’s armband is up for grabs.
Kylian Mbappé is arguably the best player in the world right now. Despite his young age, he has already won the World Cup with France and is already the top scorer in PSG’s history.
Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Hugo Lloris holds the record as the most-capped France player ever. Lloris left the international stage playing 145 times for France and won the 2018 World Cup with his country and team-mate Mbappé.
The 36-year-old has, however, hung his international gloves up and now the captain’s armband is up for grabs.
Lloris believes in Mbappé
When speaking to Telefoot in France and questioned over who should be France’s next captain, Lloris said, “There is one player that is becoming more powerful in every aspect on and off the pitch and even in the dressing room and that is Kylian Mbappé.”
At just 24, Mbappé could easily be the next leader of Les Bleus, with head coach Didier Deschamps expected to soon name his next captain.
Antoine Griezmann is another candidate for the captaincy. The Atlético Madrid forward has been in scintillating form this season and had a hugely impressive World Cup in Qatar, helping Les Bleus get to the final.
PSG defeat
In Ligue 1 on Sunday, PSG suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Rennes. Mbappé played up front with Lionel Messi but the pair were unable to conjure up their usual magic as the away side scored two goals in quick succession to win in the French capital.
