Kylian Mbappé will not captain PSG this season after Luis Enrique’s squad gave its final verdict on Tuesday. Brazilian defender Marquinhos will wear the armband for the 2023-24 campaign. In a second vote, held on Tuesday, the first one last Friday, the Brazilian was named club captain.

The second vote took place on Tuesday morning by private ballot, with each player choosing a captain. Marquinhos won the final vote over Marco Verratti, Mbappé, Danilo Pereira and Presnel Kimpembe. The centre-back had also won in the first ballot last week.

It now remains to be seen which captain’s position Mbappé will occupy within the squad. Luis Enrique confirmed on Friday that he would not be in charge of the captain’s appointments. Marquinhos previously wore the armband under Christophe Galtier and Mauricio Pochettino and his leadership in the French capital is not in question.

PSG hoping to tie Mbappé down

PSG are aiming to bring Mbappé closer to signing a new deal and the player’s entourage has agreed to engage in talks with the club in a less hostile climate than in the last two months.
