Soccer fans in Los Angeles were left disappointed after this weekend’s MLS opener between LA Galaxy and LAFC was called off for safety concerns. On Friday, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood and hazardous weather warning, with the risk of thunderstorms and flooding in the Los Angeles County area over the next 24 hours.
LA Galaxy vs LAFC: When will the rescheduled match be played?
MLS has confirmed a new date for the game which will take place on Tuesday 4 July 2023, kicking off at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.
Tickets originally purchased for the 25 February game will be honored for the rescheduled match on 4 July.
The Galaxy’s home meeting with St. Louis CITY SC, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday 4 July 4, has been switched to Sunday 10 September 2023 (8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT) at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Hosts LA Galaxy had hoped to get their season off to a good start with a positive result against their neighbours. Greg Vanney’s side, who last lifted the trophy back in 2014, featured in the playoffs last season after finishing fourth in the Western Conference with 50 points. They made it as far as the semi-finals, only to be knocked out by LAFC, losing 3-2 with Cristian Arango scoring in injury time.
LAFC finished top of the Western Conference last season with 67 points, 11 more than second-placed Austin FC, after recording 21 wins in 34 games. After eliminating the Galaxy in the semis, Steve Cherundolo’s side breezed past Austin to book their place in the final against Philadelphia Union. The game was decided from the penalty spot after ending 3-3 after extra-time, LAFC prevailing 3-0 in the shootout.
