Lack of Mexican internationals in the Liga MX final

Only three players from the Mexico national soccer team will be playing in the Liga MX final between Pachuca and Toluca.

Only two teams are left in the Apertura 2022 final and Toluca and Pachuca will fight to lift the title this campaign. The two sides were not expected to reach this stage, but they managed to defeat the top two contenders in the semi-finals last week, Club América and Monterrey respectively.

Lack of Mexican international

Unfortunately, this is not good news for the head coach of the Mexico national team, Gerardo Martino, because only three players that will be included in the World Cup roster will play in the biggest game of the tournament. The three Mexican internationals that will be monitored by Martino are Erick Sánchez, Luis Chávez and Kevin Álvarez and they all play for Los Tuzos.

There are other Mexican-born players that have had an outstanding tournament with Toluca, but they are not being considered during Gerardo Martino’s tenure. Haret Ortega, Marcel Ruíz and Fernando Navarro have been key players for Los Diablos, but they will not be included in the World Cup roster traveling to Qatar next month.

América and Monterrey players join camp

The good news for Gerardo Martino is that since Club América and Monterrey are eliminated, eight players will join the training camp that is being held in Mexico City prior to traveling to Spain for the last two friendlies before the start of the World Cup. César Montes (Monterrey), Héctor Moreno (Monterrey), Luis Romo (Monterrey), Jesús Gallardo (Monterrey), Rogelio Funes Mori (Monterrey), Henry Martín (América), Néstor Araujo (América) and Guillermo Ochoa (América) will be joining the rest of their teammates later this week.
