LAFC remain top despite loss to Colorado Rapids
LAFC suffered their second defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 2-0 to the Rapids, but remained in first place in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles Football Club were looking to extend their unbeaten streak in the 2022 Major League Soccer season on their visit to Colorado on Saturday but experienced a setback against the Rapids. The Black & Gold lost 2-0 at DSG Park after giving away two penalty kicks, from Gyasi Zardes and Diego Rubio, in the first half to suffer their second defeat of the season.
“We all watched a very poor football match today and Colorado was the better team,” said LAFC’s head coach Steve Cherundolo during the postgame press conference. “We weren’t awake, good enough to compete in the first 20 minutes and that is what decided this game.”
LAFC remains in first place
The Black & Gold gave away two penalties in Colorado in the first thirty minutes, which ended a remarkable MLS record run of 46 consecutive games without conceding that dates back to November 2020. Despite the defeat, LAFC remains in first place in the Western Conference with 23 points and a record of seven wins, two defeats and two draws.
LAFC will return to action on Wednesday when they host Austin FC at the Banc of California stadium. It is going to be a busy week for LAFC: after Austin they will go on the road to play in Columbus against the Crew on 21 May.
