The final of the Concacaf Champions League is upon us and now the organisers have confirmed the times and dates for the two legs of the final round of the competition. LAFC will represent MLS as they take on Liga MX side León after two fantastic semi-finals that went all the way.

Cherundolo’s side thumped Philadelphia Union 3-0 at the BMO Stadium after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Goals from Tillman, Opoku and Bouanga sealed the deal and sent Jim Curtin’s side crashing out. As for León, they beat Tigres in a dramatic second leg 3-1 win following a 2-1 loss at the Estadio Universitario.

The road to the final

León, before the semi-final, lost 2-1 in the return leg of the quarter-final, but their 5-0 thrashing in the first game was more than enough for them to eventually go through 6-2 on aggregate. LAFC, for their part, sent the Vancouver Whitecaps to the cleaners on both occasions, whipping them 3-0 both home and away, with goals from Vela and Cifuentes topping off a brace from Bouanga and one from Opoku.

Why are LAFC playing away first and at home second?

Concacaf took the season-long results from both teams and decided on the numbers: LAFC got 13 points and had a +11 goal difference, while León managed 12 points and got a goal difference of +8, meaning that the MLS side will have the advantage of playing the second leg at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
