Lazio in talks with Marcelo

According to reports in Italy, Lazio are negotiating with Marcelo’s agent and eyeing another luxury free agent, Dries Mertens.

While Paulo Dybala’s arrival and the recent successes of Mourinho era are celebrated with great enthusiasm in Rome, on the other side of the Italian capital, the atmosphere is not quite as upbeat. Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio have yet to get their cheque book out leaving fans disappoint with videos circulating on the social media calling out president Claudio Lotito: “They have signed La Joya, what are you doing?”

The Biancoceleste’s answer could come in the shape of two highly experienced and well known players - Dries Mertens and Marcelo. Both are free agents, and the first has been talked about for weeks due to his great relationship with Sarri and his decision not to renew with Napoli.

Today, former Madrid left-back has also been linked to Lazio, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, contact has already been made with both players’ agents.

Marcelo would be looking for a deal until 2025, with a salary of around 2.5 million net, which would be an important investment for the Romans. They would want some guarantees about the physical condition of both players before committing. However, Corriere dello Sport report that the club has denied any interest in either the Brazilian or the Belgian. Lotito will soon reveal his cards...
