Ciro Immobile was involved in a car accident in Rome at approximately 8:30 hours this morning. The Lazio captain was travelling in a Land Rover Defender which collided with a tram travelling on Line 19 (which connects the Flaminio neighborhood and Prati) as it was crossing Matteotti bridge, not far from the Olympic Stadium. Immobile and his two daughters, who were travelling with him, were all taken to San Giovanni Addolorata hospital where they remain in observation.

Fortunately, neither the player nor his daughters suffered serious injury, and in statements to AGTW, he confessed that he did not jump any traffic lights: “The tram jumped a red light. Luckily I’m fine, my arm just hurts a little,” he explained. One of his daughters is wearing a neck brace after suffering whiplash. A picture of the scene showed Immobile’s black Land Rover with severe damage to the front of the chassis and bonnet.

According to other Italian media outlets, other vehicles were also involved in the accident. A total of seven people were taken to hospital by ambulance to the hospital, along with several tram passengers and the driver.

Police trying to reconstruct the incident

An incident that has yet to be reconstructed, but which occurred at high speed, leaving the tram derailed and on the pavement. The severity of the impact can be seen in videos posted by local media.

Italian police are trying to gather information about the accident by interviewing witnesses and passengers on the tram, although none have been able to confirm with certainty whether the tram went through a red light. Both the firefighters and the municipal police and emergency services immediately arrived at the scene, just where the trajectories of both vehicles converge.
