Liga MX Clausura 2023: when did Chivas last lose to Tijuana?
It’s over three years since Chivas Guadalajara lost to Tijuana, who Los Rojiblancos beat 2-1 at the Estadio Akron on Wednesday.
It can’t be said that Chivas Guadalajara played fantastic football on Wednesday, but it was nonetheless a happy night for the home fans at the Estadio Akron. Thanks to Víctor Guzmán’s two penalties, Los Rojiblancos beat Club Tijuana 2-1 to finally register a home victory in the Clausura 2023 tournament.
Chivas stretch unbeaten streak against Xolos
The win leaves Chivas fifth in the regular-season standings, and extends the club’s undefeated run against Tijuana to three and a half years.
To find El Rebaño Sagrado’s most recent loss to Los Xolos, you have to go back to 30 October 2019. The visitors triumphed 1-0 in Guadalajara thanks to a goal by Ariel Nahuelpan, who is now at a Mazatlán side that has endured a nightmare start to the Clausura 2023, losing five matches out of five.
Tijuana defeat ended Chivas’ playoff hopes
That victory for Tijuana came on matchday 16 of the Apertura 2019. For Chivas, the defeat proved fatal to their chances of reaching the postseason. Although the 12-time Mexican champions then went on to win their final three games of the league phase, they finished in 10th place - two points off the playoff spots.
