Following the controversy in the wake of the World Cup final in Sydney, Jennifer Hermoso’s club, Pachuca, have come out in support of their player.

During the medal presentation after the World Cup Final on Sunday 20 August, RFEF President Luis Rubiales forcefully kisses Jenni Hermoso, an act which has led to a media storm and a worldwide clamour for equal rights, as well as an end to the presidency of Rubiales and various Federation members.

Initially, the RFEF president claimed that both people were in agreement over the kiss, but Jenni herself came out and suggested otherwise.

Rubiales has now been suspended by FIFA for his actions and Pedro Rocha has taken over, sending out a statement recently in which he demanded the immediate dismissal of Rubiales from his post. The future of Women’s National Team manager, Jorge Vilda, is also under serious threat.

Pachuca support their player with a banner and personalised shirts

Moments before Pachuca’s game against Atlético San Luis kicked off in Match day 6 of the Apertura 2023, Los Tuzos surprised supporters when they arrived onto the pitch carrying a banner in which they recognised their world champion: “We are with you Jenni” read the message at the Estadio Hidalgo.

The Apertura 2022 champions also wore the same message on their iconic blue and white striped t-shirts: #EstamosContigoJenni, in support of the Pachuca Femenil player.

New-look RFEF want Rubiales out

The ex-Barcelona player made it clear that she was never in agreement with the shameful act that has caused a reaction of shock and horror around the world: “I want to make it clear that I never gave consent for the kiss he gave to me and I never lifted up the president. I do not tolerate the fact that my words have been doubted and a lot less that things are invented that I did not say”, she explained in an official statement.

The Spanish Football Federation have most recently published a statement in which they “request that Mr. Luis Rubiales present his resignation as president of the RFEF immediately” and they “urge the corresponding bodies to carry out a wholesale, immediate and organic restructuring process of strategic positions in the Federation”.
