Liga MX’s playoff experts aiming to make final leap
Despite reaching the Liga MX semifinals in four consecutive tournaments, Cruz Azul has been denied the Mexican title on each occasion.
With a few complications - and some luck, too - Cruz Azul knocked out Chivas Guadalajara to punch their ticket to the Apertura 2025 semifinals. In recent years, the club from La Noria has become a specialist in the big stage, consistently delivering strong performances.
Fifth time lucky for Cruz Azul?
For now, the nine-time Mexican champion has reached the last four in four straight Liga MX tournaments (Clausura 2024, Apertura 2024, Clausura 2025, and Apertura 2025).
But now, La Máquina faces its own demons: only once during that stretch did they manage to advance to the final.
In the previous two campaigns, Club América crushed Cruz Azul’s title hopes. With Las Águilas now out of the picture, Los Cementeros’ faithful are dreaming of a spot in the championship series.
It’s worth noting that the last time Cruz Azul lifted the Liga MX trophy was in the Guardianes 2021 tournament, defeating Santos Laguna. Although the year is winding down, Nicolás Larcamón’s squad has a packed schedule ahead - they’ll soon be flying to Qatar to compete in the Intercontinental Cup.
