One of the most important issues for Inter Miami CF to address ahead of the next MLS season will be the signing of new Designated Players. With Gonzalo Higuaín set to retire, Rodolfo Pizarro not in the club’s plans and Alejandro Pozuelo’s contract expiring, the Herons will have room for new stars in 2023, according to MLS expert Tom Bogert.

Last winter, the club owned by David Beckham had difficulty getting rid of players that were deemed not good enough to take them onto the next level, opting to loan Mexican Pizarro to CF Monterrey and continue paying the salary of Frenchman Blaise Matuidi, even though he was not registered as a player.

Building a balanced squad is always vital when it comes to determining the success of a club in any given season. Ahead of the current campaign, which will end in just a few weeks, Inter Miami added a whole host of new players, who struggled to gel in the first few matches of the year, resulting in hugely inconsistent runs of form for Phil Neville’s side.

Messi, Suárez and Busquets to Inter Miami?

Sergio Busquets: The Barcelona defensive midfielder has been one of the names most heavily linked with the Florida club in recent days. Despite the fact that Busquets himself and his coach Xavi Hernández have denied it, reports claim that the experienced 34-year-old will arrive in Miami in the summer of 2023.

Luis Suárez: The iconic Uruguayan striker recently signed for Nacional in his homeland, but it has been revealed that he could move to MLS after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. There have been rumours of moves to LA Galaxy and Inter Miami amongst others, but any interested party would have to negotiate with Seattle Sounders, who have the player’s MLS Discovery Rights.

Lionel Messi: The Paris Saint-Germain star was linked with the Herons, with media in Argentina revealing that the ex-Barcelona legend is contemplating acquiring a percentage of the club before joining in July next year. In recent days, however, it has been suggested that the French giants have offered him a new contract.
