On a day where the result of the match took a back seat, Lionel Messi addressed words to Inter Miami fans just moments before the start of the friendly against New York City FC, where he was quite explicit about what lies ahead for The Herons in 2024. The world champion also expressed his excitement at sharing the Ballon d’Or with the DRV PNK Stadium fans.

Messi promises titles ahead for Inter Miami

In the first instance, Messi emphasised the significance of this event for him.

“Thank you for being here, thank you for this lovely tribute,” he began. “For me, it’s something very beautiful to be able to share it with you. I’ve been here for a short time, but it feels like I’ve been here for so long. I want to thank you, and as I said at the beginning, I had no doubt that we would have a good time.”

The captain of Miami continued his message, acknowledging what lies ahead for Fort Lauderdale in 2024.

“Today, I have no doubt that next year will be much better; we will continue to enjoy, we will continue to win titles. I hope you accompany us as you have done all these months. Next year, we have important things, and we have to do them together.”

The fans present at Inter Miami’s venue fully embraced the Argentinean national team’s number ‘10′, chanting his name repeatedly during the game. It is evident that going forward, the team led by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino will have the support of those closely following the club and the South American star. At least if things are going well.

What’s next for Lionel Messi?

After this exhibition match at DRV PNK Stadium - which ended in a 2-1 loss for Miami - Messi will join up with the Albiceleste for the double-header in the Conmebol Qualifiers for the North America 2026 World Cup, where they will face Uruguay and Brazil. As he heads towards the next tournament in the North American league, the legendary footballer with eight Ballon d’Or awards will aim to continue adding titles to his extensive list of achievements.
