With 2023 coming to an end, we take a look at how Lionel Messi performed over the last 12 months for club and country.

It has been just over a year since Messi lifted the 2022 World Cup with Argentina in Qatar and the last year has seen him feature with two clubs and win two trophies along the way as he adapted to life in the United States.

Messi scored 28 goals in 45 games in 2023, including 11 with new club Inter Miami, where he hit the ground running after making to move from French champions PSG.

45 appearances: 22 with PSG, 14 with Inter Miami and 9 with Argentina

28 goals: 9 with PSG, 11 with Inter Miami and 8 with Argentina

12 assists: 6 with PSG, 5 with Inter Miami and 1 with Argentina

2 trophies: Ligue 1 title with PSG and Leagues Cup with Inter Miami

What’s next for Messi and Inter Miami?

Messi will return to action in January, when Inter Miami will embark on an international tour to face the El Salvador national team on 19 January. Tata Martino’s roster will then travel to the Middle East, where they will face Al Hilal on 29 January and Al Nassr on 1 February.

Newell’s Old Boys

Three days later, on 4 February, Inter will play another friendly against a Hong Kong team (made up of local stars) and then return to Miami, where on 15 February they will host Argentine outfit Newell’s Old Boys at the DRV-PNK Stadium.
