Liverpool are set to continue their push to the top of the Premier League this weekend as they take on Wolves at Molineux. Ahead of the game, head coach Arne Slot sat down in front of the press to discuss a plethora of topics, including the futures of three key players, all of whom have less than a single season remaining on their current contracts with the club.

Allison, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohammed Salah have been key figures as Liverpool have taken the step up back to the elite level of football in Europe, and fans have watched on as they have propelled the team to Champions League titles, Premier League wins and becoming consistently one of the top performers in world football.

However, that was under the management of Jurgen Klopp, who is no longer at the helm. Arne Slot replaced the outgoing German and much was made of how the side would evolve: for now, they seem to be working fluidly together, players and coaches, as they look to fight with Pep Guardiola’s machine at the summit of England’s top division.

Slot on Salah future: “let’s see”

Slot spoke before the Wolves game, and was asked about the futures of the three aforementioned players, who are yet to put pen to paper on Merseyside. “I’m really happy to work with these three players [Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah]”, he said before adding “let’s see what the future brings. I’m really happy with the squad I’ve inherited, not just the quality but the characters and the culture that’s been created.”

This ambiguous response to the question asked, if we read between the lines, could simply mean that nothing has been sorted regarding the futures of the trio and as time goes on the issue will be resolved one way or another. The squad, in addition to the three, has been hugely impressive this season, with Luis Díaz shining particularly bright in the early stages of the season. Slot acknoledged that in his press conference, saying that it is “a privilege to inherit a squad like I have from Jurgen [Klopp].”

For now, and with Alisson, Alexander-Arnold and Salah in the side, Liverpool have a very winnable run of fixtures coming up, with Wolves preceding a Champions League tie against Bologna before they take on Crystal Palace and Chelsea, two mid-table sides that are could cause problems but on paper can be beaten.

Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen come after that in what is a somewhat terrifying prospect, but Liverpool’s early season form has shown that they can still mix it with the best, despite the changes and uncertainty regarding the future of their stars.
