Liverpool 1-0 Man City
Liverpool-Man City (match report)
With many football fans around the world tuning into Sunday's 'El Clásico', Liverpool and Manchester City served up a Premier League classic of their own with a blistering second half to remind us wll why this league makes for such compelling viewing.
The first half saw both sides enjoy spells of dominance with neither keeper really being stretched as De Bruyne and Haaland had a discreet 45' for the visiting side.
Things changed in the second half where City felt they were ahead after Foden slotted home from an acute angle but a subsequent VAR check revealed that Haaland had fouled Fabinho in the build up much to the disgust of City boss Guardiola.
Moments later Salah almost made it 1-0 when the Egyptian broke through only to be deprived from an excellent stop from Ederson as the Brazilian managed to get enough to alter the trajectory of the ball.
Liverpool sat deep and soaked up pressure from the visitors and when it seemed that City were primed to strike, a sublime clearance from Alisson found Salah who clipped past to put the Reds ahead in the 76th minute.
The rest of the contest was a nervy and tense affair with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp being red carded for a vehement protest after it appeared that Bernardo Silva had fouled Salah.
Liverpool held on, and their win brings City's unbeaten run to an end with the Anfield result celebrated with the same enthusiasm by Arsenal fans as the Gunners now open a four point lead at the Premier League summit.

What a game and a solitary strike from Mo Salah enough to decide the game.
Jota stretchered off and the whistle sounds.
Jota off and Tsimikas on for the Portugal international.
Haaland's face says it all as the Norwegian heads tamely at the Liverpool keeper.
Still no sign of the whistle as we head into the 8th minute of time added on with Jota getting attention after pulling up with cramp.

The Portuguese player now pushes the Liverpool man as tempers fray.
Five minutes left for City to salvage something from this game.
Liverpool set to record a hat-trick of wins over City.
That's a poor challenge from Thiago as the former Bayern man slips and takes out Rodri. A card is quite correctly brandished.
Arsenal fans will be over the moon with this scoreline.
What an intervention from Van Dijk as the Dutch header nicks the ball off Haaland.
Less than ten minutes to go and the decibel levels at Anfield are through the roof. Could this be the result that properly kick starts Liverpool's faltering season?
The City No. 25 is carded for the infringement.
Nuñez maurades forward and looks to curl it into the corner. Was Salah in a better position? Liverpool fans in top voice now as the Uruguay striker is clipped on the edge of the box by Akanji.
What vision from Alisson to see the Egyptian striker and a great run and finish from the Liverpool strker.
The Reds take the lead with route one football and City staring their first defeat in the face with less than 15' left.
Salah scores

On: Nunez, Henderson and Carvalho
Off: Firminho, Fabinho and Elliot
At the moment, the happiest with this scoreline are probably Arsenal fans. The Gunners top the table with 27 points from Arsenal's nine wins (and one defeat).
City are currently on 24 points.
20' left at Anfield and still no side capable of breaking the deadlock. Salah breaks into the box and just slips as he unleashes a left footed effort.
Haaland shoots and Alisson saves majestically from the blonde striker. City on top now, one senses and Liverpool are all about trying to hurt the side from Manchester via lightning counter attacks.
Past the hour mark and no changes for either side. It is, however, despite the scoreline wonderful entertainment and reminds us all of whet we love the Premier League.
A card for Fabinho as he clips a City player.

Actually, what a save from the Brazilian stopper as he gets the slightest touch to devert the ball from heading to the corner of the net.
No changes at the break but surely a question of time before Grealish is brought on....
Off we go... Salah with the first touch as Liverpool start the second 45.
The teams return to the pitch at Anfield... What will the second 45' deliver? City fans will look to De Bruyne for more magic with the Belgian quiet in the first half.
The corresponding fixture at Anfield last season also was goalless at the break with that clash ending 2-2. Mane and Salah on target for the Reds with De Bruyne and Foden scoring for the Manchester side.
City on top in terms of possession in the first 45' with 54% of the ball and three shots on target to the one for the home side.
The whistle sounds and it's been a bright and entertaining half albeit without a high number of clear cut scoring chances for either side. Haaland has gone close twice bit neither keeper has really been stretched with the game experiencing waves of dominance for both teams.
Klopp will not be displeased with his sides performance in this half with City reduced to half chances.
One minute of time to be added.
A draw or even Liverpool win would suit Arsenal fans down to a t today with Mike Arteta's side recording a hard fought win earlier at Elland Road with a goal from Saka enough for the three points.
De Bruyne feeds Haaland and once again the Norwegian fails to get the accuracy he wants as he nods straight at Alisson.

Huge cheer from Anfield as Salah launches a marauding run and wins his side a corner.
Elliot picks up the ball and finds Jota but the header from the Portuguese is straight at the City keeper.
The corresponding fixtures between these sides at Anfield and the Etihad both ended 2-2 last season.
Liverpool did pip City in both the FA Cup semi-final and Community Shield though.
Whatever happens at Anfield today, Arsenal will still top the table after a 0-1 win away at Leeds United. Saka on target once again for 'The Gunners'
Cancelo is once again the protagonist, but his teasing cross is caught by Alisson.
For the moment the 'Citizens' are putting on a clinic in how to pass. From short to long, the Blues are working the ball all over the pitch in an exquisite display of possession. Liverpool are struggling to keep up at the moment.

Is it a sign of the times?
Over the last two decades, we definitely saw the rise of the free roaming No. 10, but over the last few years we've seen a move away from intricate midfield play, to a more direct approach.
Could it be that the return of the No. 9 has begun and how will that affect the transfer market in coming seasons?

Now that's just ridiculous...
There are plenty of valid arguments for why Erling Haaland can't be considered among the best players in the world, but here's the thing:goals win games.
When it comes to goals, there are few if any that we've seen, who have a knack for manufacturing goals as often as the Norwegian. In truth it's downright scary.
Best of luck to Liverpool's dense...

Not the kind of history you want to make
As we mentioned before, the Reds haven't exactly got off to a great start this season. While their last five games haven't all been losses, one can imagine that should they lose today, there will be real concern at Anfield.

Does Jurgen Klopp have a point, or is it simply a case of the German coach moaning and groaning because his team hasn't been doing so well of late? Regardless of where you stand, he's not lying about the financial power that Manchester City has in the market today.

A reminder of Phil Foden's class
Will we see a repeat of this tonight? No matter how you cut it, Liverpool is going to have to be at their best if they are to keep the Citizens at bay.

Phil Foden Commits!
This will surely make City fans happy. As one of the most talented midfielders of his young generation, Foden has continued to show that he can play with the best of them. With his long running contractual negotiation now out of the way, expect the little maestro to have a proper go at Liverpool tonight.

The Lineups are in!
Where the Reds are concerned, there lineup is a little different from usual, but perhaps the most curious tweak is that of James Milner at right back. None the less, regardless of who's the field, the main task tonight will be how to keep Erling Haaland quiet.
Speaking of Haaland, the Norwegian is back in the lineup having been rested in City's last game. It would take a brave man to bet against him getting on the scoresheet this evening, as the Norwegian has been in record breaking form.
