Liverpool reach agreement to sign Darwin Núñez from Benfica for €100m
The Premier League side will pay €80 million for the Uruguayan striker plus around €20 million in add-ons.
Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement to buy striker Darwin Núñez from Benfica, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Premier League side will pay €80 million for the Uruguayan striker plus around €20 million in add-ons. The reported fee would see the 22-year-old become the club’s record signing.
Liverpool’s current record signing is centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who joined the club for a fee of £75m. Manchester United have also been interested in signing Núñez but the lure of Champions League football will have been an important factor for the young forward.
In 28 league appearances for Benfica last season, Núñez led the line superbly, scoring 26 times and registering four assists.
Mané set to leave
Núñez is expected to sign a five-year deal at Anfield, which could accelerate Sadio Mané's departure, as the Senegal international looks to join Bayern Munich. Liverpool are still in talks with the Bundesliga side after rejecting their first two offers.
Liverpool can also count on Mohamed Salah for the upcoming season after saying he will stay at the club for the final year of his contract.
