Liverpool vs Brighton – how they shape up

Liverpool sit all the way down in 8th spot in the table after an uncertain start to the season by their own high standards. Jürgen Klopp’s men have only won two of their opening six Premier League fixtures and are already nine and eight points behind Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. They do, however, have a game in hand after their last fixture away to Chelsea was postponed following the bereavement of Queen Elizabeth II.

Brighton, on the other hand, have enjoyed a superb start to the season, surpassing expectations in the first few weeks of the campaign. The Seagulls amassed 13 points from their first six Premier League games under Graham Potter, who has since left to join Chelsea. Can new boss Roberto De Zerbi keep Brighton’s momentum going? He’s got a very tough start with a match against Tottenham Hotspur following the trip to Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brighton – team news

Liverpool will again be without Scotland captain Andy Robertson, with Kostas Tsimikas expected to continue in his place at left-back. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also still out but fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson returned from injury in England’s draw with Germany and could lead the team out. Diogo Jota has fully recovered from a hamstring problem and may well start in attack alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz.

Midfielder Enock Mwepu is the main doubt for Brighton, with a fever likely to lead to him missing out. Adam Lallana isn’t expected to play against his former club because of a calf injury, while long-term absentee Jakub Molder remains sidelined. Attacking midfield trio Pascal Gross, Leandro Trossard and Alexis Mac Allister have lit up the Premier League this season, netting nine of the Seagulls’ 11 league goals.
