Lorenzo Insigne’s time in MLS could be coming to an end. Before the January transfer window opened, the Italian began to look for a way out, and he intends to return to Serie A. According to reports in Italy, Fiorentina have refused to sign the former Napoli player in January, citing the high salary he currently earns in Canada.

New agent for Insigne

The Italian has been trying to find a way out of Toronto FC since December, with reports of potential interest from Roma and Lazio at the end of the year. Fiorentina see his salary as a stumbling block and are believed to be out of the running to land the forward. Insigne hopes to return to Italy this month and has even changed agents (now being represented by You First’s Alessandro Favero) to force a move through.

The Italian went to MLS after a fine spell at Napoli, where he was the team leader under both Maurizio Sarri and Carlo Ancelotti, but his time in Canada hasn’t gone as planned. He had the highest salary in the league until the arrival of Leo Messi, Luis Suárez and Co. in Miami.
