Luis Chávez revealed why the US has surpassed Mexico
The United States men’s national team has not lost against the Mexican national team in their last four meetings across all competitions.
The United States men’s national team has the upper hand when it comes to facing Mexico in their last four meetings across all competitions. The USMNT started their positive streak by defeating El Tri in the CONCACAF Nations League Final in June 2021 with a 3-2 result. They met again in August of that year in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final and the United States defeated Mexico 1-0 to lift the trophy.
Then in November of 2021 they met for the World Cup qualifiers at TQL stadium and the United States defeated El Tri 2-0 with Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie finding the back of the net. Both sides met one more time in the final round of the qualifiers at Estadio Azteca and they ended up in a 0-0 draw. This negative streak happened under Gerardo Martino’s tenure and Mexican international, Luis Chávez, gave his opinion.
Why the US has surpassed Mexico
“Sending players to Europe and to compete in important tournaments. Sometimes their league [MLS] loans players to different clubs and I think that has made the difference between both national teams. Here in Mexico, the teams pay the players very well and that makes them not want to leave Liga MX,” said Chávez during an interview with Telemundo Deportes.
At the same time, the 27-year-old, who had a breakout performance with Mexico at the World Cup, confirmed that he had an offer to leave Pachuca and sign with Monterrey during the winter transfer window. Luis Chávez decided not to accept it because he wants to play in Europe’s top tier.
