Tigres consider appointing former Mexico boss Tata Martino

Tigres UANL continues their search to appoint a new head coach after Diego Cocca left to take over the Mexico national team for the new World Cup cycle earlier this month. The Monterrey-based team appointed Marco Antonio Chima Ruíz as their interim head coach while they analyze who is the right man for the job.

Martino on Tigres’ radar

According to journalist Rubén Rodríguez, the club are considering offering the job to Gerardo Tata Martino following his poor results with Mexico during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The people in charge at Tigres believe that Martino is the right man for the job and he will be able to bring better results with a club because of the day-to-day work, unlike a national team.

There is no real offer on the table, but Martino is on the list of candidates to be appointed in the following weeks. The last time the 60-year-old head coach was in charge of a club was with Atlanta United from 2016 to 2018. Martino did a fantastic job with the Five Stripes and built a competitive team that ended up winning the 2018 MLS Cup.

Tigres is a team that likes to be very offensive and Martino could improve their high press with his attacking philosophy. For now, the club is doing well under Chima Ruíz since the departure of Cocca as they remain in third place in the standings after nine 2023 Clausura games.
