Former England international Rio Ferdinand claimed on TNT Sports: “PSG are not out of it, but they have to be a much better version of themselves next game. The best player in the world in my opinion is Mbappé. He didn’t play well and when he doesn’t play, PSG don’t get the result,” he said, alluding to Luis Enrique’s lack of alternatives.

Speaking on Radio RMC, journalist Daniel Riolo was even more scathing laying the responsibility for the loss at the door of the Asturian coach: “How can you ask for intensity when you have players who don’t play in their position? Even they are surprised when they find out the lineup at breakfast!”

“It’s like a Kinder Surprise egg with Luis Enrique, every day they open an egg and discover what they’re going to get. The footballers are surprised by the lineups. I’ve been wondering for six months what it’s for and wondering does it work”.

“Mbappé likes to play as a No.9 and delivers his best displays in that position″, the 53-year-old concluded.

Luis Enrique hits back

Luis Enrique was frank and forthright in accepting the defeat at Parc des Princes stating: “The only person in this room, who knows and reviews all the matches, is me. That’s why I’m the coach and that’s why I’ve been working for so many years and I thought those were the best and the most prepared players to get a positive result. The final score discredits my decisions, it is obvious and I gladly accept everything that a defeat implies. However, I am a born sportsman and I congratulate Barça on their win”.
