Luis Enrique: “No, I haven’t seen the Mbappé documentary...”
The PSG coach spoke to the media on the eve of the Coupe de France tie against US Orleans.
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique chatted to the media on Friday to look ahead to tomorrow’s Coupe de France Round of 32 tie against third division side, US Orléans. There was some controversy surrounding the match - radical fans are boycotting the game as they consider the prices set by the rival team, at 60 euros, to be “abusive”. The tie will finally be played at Stade de la Source in Orléans, after new turf was laid at Parc des Princes which ultimately prevented it from being relocated to the French capital.
Soler hitting form
Luis Enrique began his press conference by talking about Carlos Soler, who has gained a more prominent role in recent games. “When I see a player who can play well and also understand what situations need to be controlled, that’s very interesting to me. There are many players who can do that in midfield. Carlos Soler is one of those players, and I know that each one prefers to play in a specific position. He is a high-level player. I took him to the World Cup, where there were 23 world-class players [with Spain]. He can still improve - that’s what I expect from him,” the coach said.
The former Barcelona coach was also asked about Kylian Mbappé's documentary, broadcast on France 2 in the program Envoyé Spécial, in which the forward spoke about his most human aspect and about the foundation to which he dedicates a percentage of his income. “No, I haven’t seen the Mbappé documentary - I don’t watch television, I only watch football... C’est la vie,” he added with typical irony.
Pitch concerns
Luis Enrique was alarmed by the state of the grass at the Stade de la Source, in Orléans, “a risk for the players” in his opinion. He continued, “It’s a strange and very different situation. If all circumstances were normal, it would be an opportunity to rotate the team, but due to the particular pitch, I will decide who is going to play after I have seen what condition the pitch is in. We are not going to take risks. There are many possible changes. I will decide who is going to play and how we are going to play when I see the state of the pitch. I hope the pitch is in good condition, but I have my doubts. Above all else so that there are no physical risks for the players. There are already enough risks in a normal game”.
