Ángeles Béjar, the mother of Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales, has been transferred to hospital having been locked in a church in the Spanish town of Motril since Monday, according to the parish priest.

“It is because of the heat and everything. Her feet were swollen and she was tired, with anxiety,” said the local priest.

Support for Rubiales

Today was the third day of a hunger strike by Ángeles Béjar, who has shown her support for her son Luis Rubiales after he kissed Spain player Jenni Hermoso after the Women’s World Cup final.

The 76-year-old announced that she would lock herself in the church until Hermoso “tells the truth” about what happened at the World Cup medal ceremony.

Rubiales refuses to apologise

The Spanish FA president has refused to apologise for the unwanted kiss on Hermoso and said that “false feminism” was to blame for the controversy.

Rubiales, 46, is facing growing pressure to step down from his role and has been suspended by FIFA pending an investigation. Over 80 female footballers have refused to play while he remains president.
