Angel City and Kansas City Current lead NWSL most valuable franchises ranking
Women’s soccer continues to be an attractive proposition in the USA as the value of major franchises continues to increase.
Women’s soccer in the United States has always been positioned as a market with great capacity for growth.
After a series of incarnations, the NWSL seems to have found the formula in generating an exciting league where the teams have become big business generators as more external investors looks to move into women’s sport with both the WNBA and NWSL booming.
US based sports marketing portal, Sportico has published a listing of the Top 10 most valuable franchises in the NWSL, with Angel City and KC Current leading the way despite neither team having ever won the championship.
The team values have exploded in recent years, with the most recent sales valuing Angel City FC at $250 million and San Diego Wave at $113 million. The average club is worth $104 million, up 57% from the prior year.

Angel City FC
The team was founded by high profile celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Alexis Ohanian, tennis player Serena Williams, and former USWNT stars Mia Hamm, Lauren Holiday and Abby Wambach. The current board of directors also includes Becky G. Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, current and former NFL players Matthew Stafford and Ryan Kalil. ACFC’s ownership group also includes Billie Jean King, and is now majority owned by Willow Bay and Bob Iger, notable journalists and Disney executives, respectively.

The team joined the league in 2022 and has been the highest-valued and highest-earning team in women’s football on the continent since last year. In this latest report from Sportico, Angel City FC is ranked first on the list, valued at $250 million.

The Kansas City team appears in second place in the ranking with the club owners anxious that the team is instrumental in improving the image of the city abroad.

Angie Long and Chris Long are listed as owners, while Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes claim to be co-owners of the team. The Kansas club is valued at $182 million.
