Estados Unidos Update:

Luis Suárez is in the midst of a worrying dry spell. Following Inter Miami’s 0–0 draw away to Chicago Fire in Week 8 of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, concern is growing over the Uruguayan striker’s prolonged scoring drought – now stretching to 572 minutes without a goal.

Suárez last found the net on March 13, in Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup visit to Cavalier SC of Jamaica. That strike feels distant now, as ‘El Pistolero’ has gone more than a month without a goal, despite being a constant presence in both MLS and continental competition.

Since that goal in Jamaica, Suárez has failed to score against Atlanta United, Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire, and Los Angeles FC – the latter of whom Miami faced twice in the Champions Cup quarterfinals. The only match Suárez didn’t play the full 90 minutes was against Toronto; his sole attacking contribution in this stretch came with an assist for Lionel Messi’s goal versus Philadelphia.

Miami face pivotal matches as pressure mounts

The pressure on Suárez – and Inter Miami – is about to intensify. Next up: an MLS clash with Eastern Conference leaders Columbus Crew, followed by the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal against Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps. That semifinal in particular will be crucial – the home leg offering a chance to build a valuable lead before heading to Canada for the return fixture.

These two showdowns could shape Miami’s season, and their success may well depend on whether Suárez can rediscover his scoring touch.

Suárez goals ruled out, but flashes of form remain

It’s not for lack of effort. In the second leg of the LAFC quarterfinal series, Suárez appeared to have finally broken his slump with a well-placed header – only for the goal to be disallowed due to a tight offside call. The VAR review upheld the decision, though many questioned the ruling. Still, the movement and finish showed glimpses of the instinct that has defined his storied career.

A similar scene unfolded in Chicago. Once again, Suárez found the net after running onto a through ball from Messi and finishing with a clinical low shot – but once again, the flag was up. Another offside, another goal chalked off.
