Luis Suárez had LA Galaxy in MLS as his first option before a move to Gremio
Luis Suárez had plans to go to MLS, but he finally arrived at Gremio after the Qatar 2022 World Cup; LA Galaxy was the main option.
One of the best strikers of recent times is Luis Suárez, who after appearing in Europe with clubs like Liverpool, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid returned to the club where he was born as a soccer player, Nacional de Uruguay, to prepare for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. After the World Cup, he joined the Gremio, but before that he had the option of going to MLS.
According to information that emerged at the time, Luis Suárez was very close to signing with LA Galaxy for the 2023 league season, but finally ended up joining the Brasileirão to embark on a new adventure in South American football.
‘Surárez’s plan was to play in the United States’
In a recent interview with the program ‘Bola Da Vez’ on ESPN Brasil, the president of the side, Alberto Guerra, declared that the historic number ‘9′ of the Uruguay National Team did not have them as a first option: “At first Suárez told us no because his plan was to play in the United States; it was a family plan, not for economic reasons”.
He also added: “Our economic proposal was 10% higher than the offer he had from MLS”. In addition to this, the manager of the Porto Alegre club mentioned the influence of the signing of Felipe Carballo, also from Uruguay, who is represented by the same agency: “Coincidentally he has the same representative as Suárez , and they have a very close relationship; Suárez treats Carballo like a son”.

Precisely, the negotiation between the Gremio and Carballo materialised before the signing of the ‘Pistolero’, with which the boss of the Brazilian giant mentioned: “The relationship with their representatives and having Felipe already in Porto Alegre made the negotiations easier. Despite having proposals for almost double what Gremio could afford, Carballo ended up choosing us because Felipe was there and because we are close to Uruguay.”

Today there is a generation of kids across Brazil that choose Suárez to play on the Playstation and today they ask their parents for Suárez’s shirt and if possible with his signature. Suárez is good for all of Brazilian soccer”.
