After a successful spell in Europe and South America, Luis Suárez confirmed himself to be one of the most prolific strikers in recent history. He recently arrived at Inter Miami to reinforce the MLS project alongside Messi, Busquets and Jordi Alba.

This Saturday, after The Herons’ thumping 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls, in which he scored a hat-trick along with the Argentine, Suárez spoke to the press in the mixed zone.

Firstly, he took the time to praise the work of Paraguayan midfielder Matias Rojas, a player who recently arrived at the club but is already building a strong reputation in Miami: “I’m not going to discover anything about what Mati is as a player, the quality he has, the years he has played in Argentine soccer, the season he spent in Brazil. He is a player who, if he is fit, makes a difference and we are grateful to have him in the team. These are his first minutes and he is an intelligent player who will help us”.

Suárez wants more intensity in Miami’s games

He then spoke specifically about the match against New York RB: “The result shows pretty much how the game went, but obviously the Inter Miami we want to see is one that starts the matches in a more intense way, one that doesn’t make as many mistakes as we do; we have to be self-critical in that sense because there is going to be a game where we can’t turn the result around.”

He also took the opportunity to highlight a key point about Saturday’s hat-trick: “I’ll take the goals, helping the team, turning around a game that we started very well in the second half and that has to be useful for the future. All goals are different, they are special and you enjoy them all in the same way”.

The way in which the Uruguayan and the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner understand each other is a key factor for The Herons, and success for the project relies heavily on them: “Everything is easier with Leo. We have known each other for a long time. You can tell because sometimes we make moves without looking at each other and we know where the other one is. That’s good for the good of the team.”

Suárez got all three goals provided to him by Messi and this delighted the fans in Fort Lauderdale, but now it will be time to rest and look to keep up the pace as they visit CF Montréal. The goal-scoring table in the dvision is topped by both Messi and Suárez with 10 goals each, but Chicho Arango is right behind with 9 goals.
