The chances of Luis Suarez playing in Liga MX for Cruz Azul seem to be slipping away as everything points to the veteran striker joining the Gremio de Porto Alegre club. The player, considered one of the best forwards of the past decade is poised to sign a two-year contract for the Serie A side which would come with a salary of approximately 3.5 million dollars.

After the World Cup, speculation was growing within the Mexican media that the striker was poised to join Liga MX outfit Cruz Azul with the club’s sporting director, Raúl Gutiérrez praising Suarez. ‘A character like Luis comes along with punch and the player comes with a massive reputation so I think it would be a fine acquisition,’ the Cruz Azul staffer told TUDN.

Messi advice

According to an interview in Brazilian outlet Os Donos da Bola with the vice president of the Gremio, Paulo Caleffi, the head of the club spoke via video call with Luis Suárez while he was at Messi’s house in Rosario where the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid player is spending time with his family over the Christmas break.

Caleffi said that Messi had recommended that Suárez opt for the Brazilian team as opposed to the side from Mexico City.
