Manchester United have been dealt a major blow with the news that defender Luke Shaw will be sidelined for 12 weeks.

The 28-year-old is set to miss the rest of the Premier League season with a hamstring injury that was sustained in the weekend win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Shaw - one of United’s key players - is expected to make a return before Euro 2024 as he aims to confirm his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad in Germany. The former Southampton man has played 31 times for his country at senior level.

Fellow United left-back Tyrell Malacia has not yet made an appearance this season after undergoing two knee surgeries and United head coach Erik ten Hag will now have to juggle his backline, with the option of Diogo Dalot switching from right-back to left-back as cover.

Shaw was ruled out for three months between August and November 2023 due to a muscle injury and a hamstring issue caused him to miss four more games in December and January. He has made just 15 appearances across all competitions for the Old Trafford side in 2023-24.
