Millions of football fans worldwide will be placing their bets on the outcome of Saturday’s Champions League final. Manchester City head into it looking stronger than ever and with confidence sky high after clinching both the Premier League title and the FA Cup in recent weeks.

Their opponents Inter Milan have a much longer and superior tradition in continental competition and were last crowned European champions in 2010. That was their third title while City are still looking to win their first.

Looking at both teams’ recent form, Guardiola’s team appear the more robust of the two on paper. They remain unbeaten in this edition of the Champions League, are the tournament’s top scorers with 31 goals (Inter are 6th on 19) and boast the individual maximum goal scorer in Erling Haaland, who is on 12 goals and the player to have dished out the most assists - Kevin De Bruyne, with seven. City don’t rely solely on Haaland - they have goal scorers throughout the team: Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, Julián Álvarez, Mahrez, Foden...

Of the 12 games leading up to the final, Guardiola’s men won seven. All of the five games they drew were away from home - Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, Leipzig, Bayern and Real Madrid in the knockout stage.

Compared to the side that lost to Chelsea in 2021, in their first Champions League final, City have learned their lesson from that disappointment, they are a far more experienced unit and have strengthened all of the areas that needed attention - particularly by bringing in a prolific goal scorer in Haaland.

Resilient Inter

Inter suffered just two defeats in their journey to Istanbul. Simone Inzaghi’s troops lost home and away to Bayern Munich in the group stage, both by the same scoreline (2-0). They may not have the same firepower as City but like a lot of Italian teams, they don’t concede many. They’ve let in just 10 goals since the competition started in September and kept eight clean sheets.

Inzaghi will doubtless capitalise on his team’s defensive strengths to stifle and frustrate City. City are equally as tight at the back though, having let in just five goals with Ederson unbeaten in seven of their matches.

So it could well be a game of cat and mouse at the Atatürk. City may have thrashed Sevilla, Copenhagen, Leipzig and Real Madrid in the earlier rounds but in a final, they will be much more cautious and won’t be doing anything reckless - as they showed last week against United at Wembley.

City versus Inter: betting odds

The bookies have City as the clear favourites. Caesars have Guardiola’s team at -230 to lift the trophy with Inter at +600 while the odds for a draw are +350. That means a $100 bet on City would win a $143.50 payout while the same wager on Inter would land $700. Let’s not forget that Liverpool were tipped to win last year’s final...

City versus Inter: prediction

You have to say that City have looked unstoppable all season. They are a side that has few weaknesses, if any... and they now have the experience of the big occasion and the pressures that go with it under their belt. They’re riding on the crest of a wave and want the treble badly. Guardiola knows exactly how to keep his players relaxed, without distractions and focused on the job in hand. Inter however, are not going to make it easy for them. Inzaghi will have studied every detail about the English champions but Saturday’s game could be a question of not conceding an early goal and seeing how the remaining minutes develop.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Inter
