Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions for the 2022/23 season, their third in a row, after Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest, who also secured their status as a top division team next season. It is their third title in the last 5 years.

A first-half goal from Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the three points for the home side in a hotly-contested affair. Arsenal had led the league table for most of the season, with a late dip in form coming before a 4-1 thrashing to Pep Guardiola’s side, which saw them lose top place to their rivals.

Pep Guardiola has won his 5th Premier League title, and has done so in fabulous fashion: City have 85 points having lost just 4 games all season. Their last loss came way back in February to Spurs.

City on for historic treble

Manchester City can continue their success this season as they are also in both the FA Cup and Champions League finals (after beating Real Madrid in the semis), meaning that they are two games away from what would be an historic treble for the club. City rivals Manchester United are the only team in England to have ever pulled off such a huge feat.

The win for Forest leaves them on 37 points, meaning that they are safe from relegation with one game to go in the league. Everton sit on 33 points and Leeds are on 31, meaning that there is no chance of them being caught up by their rivals.

Manchester City’s star players

Striker Erling Haaland has been the revelation for City this season; after much debate about how Guardiola could adapt his side, Haaland was signed and has made an immediate impact on the league, throwing the old goal records in the rubbish and setting the bar at new levels. The Norwegian has scored 36 goals in 33 games and sits 8 ahead of Harry Kane in second place.

As for their other talisman, Kevin De Bruyne, who has had a tough week, he has now claimed his fifth Premier League title. The Belgian leads the assists charts, with 16, five ahead of Saka in second. It must be nice having a Norwegian giant up front.

Manchester City play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on and Inter in the Champions League final on June 10.
