Manchester City strengthening treble-winning side: Talks continue for Joško Gvardiol
The clubs have been in talks in recent days for the player who Pep Guardiola sees as the ideal candidate for his back four.
Manchester City are working on a deal for highly-rated defender Joško Gvardiol, reports journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Both clubs have been negotiating the deal in recent days for the player who Pep Guardiola sees as the ideal candidate for his back four.
Talks between the Champions League winners and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig are set to enter advanced stages and the Croatia international has already agreed to move to the Etihad Stadium.
Sky Germany report that City have submitted an offer of €90m plus bonuses to Leipzig, however, it may be short of their expected fee.
RB Leipzig identify replacement for Gvardiol
Gvardiol signed a contract extension with Leipzig in 2022 and it includes an exit clause of €110m, however, it doesn’t come into play until 2024.
If the 21-year-old is to leave the German side, he could be replaced by Lyon defender Castello Lukeba. Sky Germany add that the 20-year-old centre-back could demand a fee in the region of €30m and talks between the clubs are ongoing.
The France U-21 defender, who has represented his country since U-17 level, played 34 Ligue 1 games for Lyon in 2022-23.
