Wantaway forward Cristiano Ronaldo will not join up with Manchester United’s preseason preparations today, with the BBC reporting that the 37-year-old will be absent for family reasons.

United accept Ronaldo training absence

The United players who had taken part in international week in June were due to return to work today, but the BBC’s Simon Stone says the Red Devils have accepted Ronaldo’s reason for not reporting to the club’s Carrington training ground.

Ronaldo keen to leave United this summer

According to widespread reports in the UK media this week, Ronaldo has asked United to listen to offers for him this summer, just a year after he rejoined the Premier League club.

Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Roma are among the clubs that have been linked with a move for the former Sporting CP, Real Madrid and Juventus star.

Frustrated by lack of transfer ambition

Last month, AS revealed that the Portugal captain has grown frustrated by United’s lack of transfer activity ahead of next season, as the 20-time English champions look to make up ground at the top of the Premier League under new head coach Erik ten Hag.

United failed to qualify for the Champions League last term, finishing 13 points off the top four and 35 points adrift of Premier League winners Manchester City.

United are said to remain eager for Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in 38 appearances last season, to see out the final 12 months of his two-year contract.
