Maradona’s legacy arrives in Miami with the Tango D10S Fan Fest

Once again Miami has become the epicentre of a world-class event to celebrate and honour the career of one of the greatest soccer players in history. After the opening of The Messi Experience just a few weeks ago, it is now time to celebrate Diego Armando Maradona and the impact that the legendary number 10 had on the world.

From Thursday June 27 to Sunday June 30, the experience, called Tango D10S Fan Festival, takes place in the city of Miami, Florida. The city becomes a new stop on a tour that began from the Qatar 2022 World Cup and will culminate with a tribute match at the Azteca Stadium in 2026 as a way to honour the career of Diego Maradona.

This experience, sponsored by the technology company Give&Get is responsible for bringing together big stars over these four days in Miami to commemorate the career of Maradona and remember how fundamental he was for the entire soccer community. The event will see his children, Delma, Giannina, Jana, Diego Jr and Diego Sinagra, all take part.

In this experience, in which fans can enjoy Artificial Intelligence recreating Diego Maradona, as well as some other attractions such as a 360-degree cinema, a recreation of Maradona’s childhood home and projections of live games of the Copa América, is how the number 10 is set to be commemorated. As well as this, Argentine soccer legends such as Mario Alberto Kempes, Oscar Ruggeri, Ariel ‘Burrito’ Ortega, Guillermo Pereyra, among others, will share what Diego meant to them.

As part of the celebration that commemorates his career, former players such as Mario Kempes expressed what it meant to him to play both with and against Diego.

“I had the good fortune to suffer him, I had the great luck to play with him and well, he was one of those geniuses that comes out once in a while... and we had him in Argentina”, he said.

Oscar Ruggeri, meanwhile, regretted that the tribute could not have taken place during Diego Armando’s lifetime, while also lamenting the fact that he was not able to physically witness Argentina’s world title: as an image he would have liked to see would have been Diego handing the World Cup to Messi.

“It is unbelievable that he can not enter through this door and enjoy all this that the people have done for him. Also, Maradona should have handed the World Cup to Messi so that the two geniuses of soccer in the world could hug each other with the trophy,” he acknowledged.

Likewise, former Argentine national team player Ariel ‘Burrito’ Ortega acknowledged that one of his greatest inspirations in the world of soccer was Maradona and for him it was special to be the player in charge of wearing the number 10 with the Argentine national team after Diego’s retirement.

“The truth is that Diego wore it in all the World Cups and the fact that I wore it in a World Cup was the most beautiful thing that happened to me in soccer,” he acknowledged.

Another person present at this event and who spoke before the microphones was former River Plate and Mallorca player, Guillermo Pereyra, who spoke about what it means to be at an event that honours the life and career of Diego.

“He marked my childhood, he was the one who showed me the direction I wanted to go and I think that seeing him with his achievements, his victories, inspired me to become a soccer player and that impacts me and moves me, as well as sharing it with his family and his children, which is really beautiful,” he added.
