Spain wrap up this final international break before next summer’s World Cup with a convincing win over Serbia and a draw against Egypt. The overall feeling around the team remains positive, but that latest stalemate against the African side has come at a cost.

Which team is FIFA number one?

By just a few decimal points, Luis de la Fuente’s side are no longer No. 1 in the FIFA rankings. Spain had held top spot since September, but after this break that distinction now belongs to Kylian Mbappé’s France, which climb two places into first.

According to the rankings, France are now the best team in the world, with Spain second and Argentina close behind after slipping to third. Three of the leading contenders to win next summer’s World Cup in the United States are also battling for the honor of sitting atop the standings.

England remain fourth. Portugal move ahead of Brazil to take fifth, while Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil drop to sixth. The top 10 is rounded out by the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany.

The curious note comes from Italy. Despite suffering their third straight World Cup failure, the Italians climb one place in the rankings to 12th.

There is also a new team at the very bottom of the table. San Marino are now the lowest-ranked side in the FIFA standings after the latest update. The final three places are occupied by Anguilla and the U.S. Virgin Islands as well.
