Marco Asensio’s time as a Real Madrid player is drawing to a close. Sunday’s match against Athletic Club will bring nine years at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu to an end and, unless there is a last-minute hitch in the negotiations, the Spain international will sign for Paris Saint-Germain on a four or five-year contract.

Which Premier League clubs want Asensio?

Asensio also has several deals on the table from England but is most attracted to PSG. Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa haven’t given up hope of convincing him to make the move to the Premier League but the Ligue 1 champions’ new project, along with the firm interest they have shown, appear to have tipped the balance in their favour.

Why Asensio wants to leave Madrid

Real Madrid, and in particular general manager José Ángel Sánchez, have tried everything in their power to convince the winger to sign a new contract but Asensio has stood his ground, turning down various offers that have been sent his way in the last few months due to his unhappiness with the bit-part role he has played since Carlo Ancelotti returned to the club.

Asensio, who signed for Real Madrid in 2014, has scored 61 goals and provided 32 assists in 285 appearances for the club.
