Maxi Araújo on board at Toluca
The Uruguayan player would already be the new reinforcement of the scarlet team, since the official confirmation of the Liga MX team is still missing.
Toluca know that they must put the best possible team together to be able to confront the Clausura 2023. Under Ignacio Ambriz’s guidance, they are looking for reinforcements in the market to build a competitive squad - one of the players on their list was Maximiliano Araújo who, according to reports, has finally arrived and will soon get his first taste of Mexican soccer. However, there is still no official confirmation of the signing from the club.
According to journalist César Luis Merlo, Maxi Araújo agreed a three-year deal with the Choriceros that will keep him at the club until December 2026. No fee was disclosed, but Transfermarkt are reporting that the transfer cost $4,262,000 (approximately 4 million euros).
The Uruguayan midfielder joins Toluca from Puebla where he played in the Apertura 2022 under the orders of coach Nicolás Larcamón. With the Camoteros, he scored two goals and gave three assists in 1,582 minutes, counting both the regular season and the Liguilla play-offs.
Araújo however won’t be the only new arrival at Toluca. The club have also asked about Santos Laguna player Félix Torres, but he has an offer from French side Lens and although his departure has not been confirmed, for now, he will continue with Santos Laguna.
Another reinforcement is defender Brian García who recently joined the team and was given minutes in Tuesday’s Sky Cup meeting with Pumas which ended in a 1-1 draw.
