PSG striker Kylian Mbappé has publicly announced his departure from the Ligue 1 side. What was an open secret has just been confirmed the French player, who took to his social media platforms to formally confirm his imminent Parc des Princes exit.

The Parisian club were eliminated against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals and it was only a matter of time that the striker announced his farewell with everything pointing a move to Real Madrid for the French international.

Mbappé's contract ends in 2024 and the player has decided not to execute the unilateral clause that allowed him to renew for another year. On June last year, the forward sent a letter to the PSG offices to notify his intention not to execute the renewal clause until 2025, or in other words, he informed them that he would be released in 2024.

Mbappé had renewed for two seasons in May 2022 and not for three as Paris Saint Germain announced once the agreement was signed.

He was ruled out of the tour of Japan, but he ignored Al Khelaïfi’s insistence that he leave the club. In advance of the first day of the 2023-24 season against Lorient, Mbappé met with the PSG leadership to reduce tension and get back to playing. PSG came out of that meeting euphoric, they even thought they could convince the footballer to extend his contract but that proved to be a false dawn as last February, Mbappé confirmed his decision to depart and called it irrevocable, as it has been. He leaves PSG after 306 games and 255 goals.

Madrid, next stop?

His expected signing for Real Madrid is anticipated to be announced in the coming weeks, barring a major surprise with Mbappé set to join up with the French national side in early June as they prepare for Euro 2024.

Mbappé (with a market value of 180 million euro according to the specialized website Transfermarkt) is expected to join up with the likes of Jude Bellingham (also 180 million) and Vinicius (150) at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.
