The French striker expressed his unhappiness that the club used him as the star of a video for a campaign to attract season ticket holders.

Off-field issues continue to dominate at PSG while the team’s performances on it fade into the background. The latest to cause a stir was Kylian Mbappé, who took to Instagram to denounced a video that the Parisian club had uploaded to launch the season ticket campaign for next season. The French striker appears as the star of the video and he isn’t too happy about it. Neither Neymar nor Messi appear in the video which seems to have annoyed Mbappé, who expressed his irritation on social media, claiming his image was used without his consent.

“I have just taken part in the viewing of the club’s season ticket renewal campaign for the 2023-2024 season. At no time was I informed of the content of the interview with my interlocutor. It looked like a basic interview at a club marketing day. I disagree with this posted video. That’s why I fight for individual image rights. PSG is a great club and a big family, but it is certainly not Kylian Saint-Germain,” the player posted on his official Instagram account.

One of the conditions under which the French star renewed with PSG was to own all of his image rights which means he needs to be informed whenever his image was used in any act, action or event by the club. This morning, the Ligue 1 leaders began their campaign to help supporters renew their season tickets by posting a one-minute long video, narrated by Mbappé, in which he is shown sat in the stands at Parc des Princes, with short, edited clips of fans, the groundsman, youth team players and television footage from PSG games. Mbappé is interviewed while he is in the stands wearing his training top: “The atmosphere, the terrain... The Parc des Princes envelops a lot of things, it’s the 12th man, it’s what brings us additional strength to fight our battles.

To be Parisian is to be proud of what you are, of what you represent, proud to be ambitious, to want to do things, to want to win, to always surpass yourself and never forget to where we come from”.

It’s not known when Mbappé was filmed or recorded the voiceover - or whether he knew what it was to be used for at the time. Obviously not...
