Mbappé reacts to Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave Liverpool
The Real Madrid attacker has reacted to the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has become the first player of the Spanish side to react to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool.
The Frenchman liked the Instagram post which showed the right-back confirm the news that he will leave his hometown club at the end of the season.
"This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life”, Alexander-Arnold, who has been at the club since he was six and is now widely expected to join Real Madrid, said, “From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters - for the last 20 years."
Alexander-Arnold rejected Liverpool’s advances
While his teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah responded to speculation about their futures by signing new deals at the Premier League champions, Alexander-Arnold has decided to join the current holders of the UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid.
The right-back has made 352 appearances and scored 23 goals for the club since making his debut in 2016. He won the Premier League title this season as as well as in 2019-20 under Jurgen Klopp. His other trophies also include the Champions League in 2018-19, the 2022 FA Cup and two League Cups.
Liverpool said Alexander-Arnold “will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success”. According to Sky Sports, “talks with the defender were understood to be a long-term priority for the Reds, with discussions dating back to last season", with “Liverpool’s offer to Alexander-Arnold would have made him the best-paid full-back not just in the Premier League.” Liverpool also rejected a bid from Real Madrid for the player which came in January.
After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.
