Estados Unidos Update:

Another setback for Lionel Messi, who, after missing several games for Inter Miami as a precaution, returned to action against Cavalier in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Atlanta United in MLS. His comeback seemed perfectly timed ahead of Argentina’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil – but now, the situation has taken an unexpected turn.

The bombshell dropped on Monday, when the Argentine captain was surprisingly left out of the final squad for the upcoming qualifiers. Inter Miami confirmed that Messi had suffered an injury, casting doubt over his fitness for future matches, including the Champions Cup clash against LAFC.

Following the announcement, Messi broke his silence on social media, addressing concerns about his condition. While downplaying the severity of the injury, he expressed his disappointment at missing such important international fixtures.

“It’s a shame to miss these two special matches with the national team against Uruguay and Brazil. As always, I wanted to be there, but at the last moment, a minor injury forced me to take a break before playing again, and I had to step aside."

And he had a message for his teammates.

“From here, I’ll be cheering and supporting like any other fan. Vamos, Argentina!” Messi wrote.

Eyes on LAFC: Messi’s next target

Fortunately for Inter Miami, MLS action takes a brief pause this weekend, with the team not returning to league play until Saturday, March 29, when they host Philadelphia Union. That game comes just four days before a massive test for the Herons.

Inter Miami will travel to Los Angeles to face LAFC on April 2 in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-finals. Messi is now racing against time to recover in hopes of playing a few minutes in that match before the return leg, which falls between a league clash with Toronto FC.
