Update:

Inter Miami is back in MLS action after a break during the last FIFA window, just like the New England Revolution. Following their time off, the team has resumed training and on Friday, they wrapped up preparations for their upcoming home match against the Philadelphia Union this Saturday.

The rest period appears to have benefited Inter Miami, with all signs pointing to Lionel Messi’s return to the pitch after missing Argentina’s FIFA matches.

At a press conference on Friday, Javier Mascherano confirmed that Messi has been training with the squad and is fit to complete his final session ahead of the match against Philadelphia. While the Argentine star is expected to be included in the squad, it remains unclear how many minutes he will play, as the Herons also have their CONCACAF Champions Cup first-round clash against LAFC on the horizon.

Leo is doing well, and God willing, if nothing unexpected happens, he will be in the squad. He has been progressing steadily. Leo is a unique player in that sometimes he needs to be held back to avoid unnecessary risks, but he also knows his body well. The reality is that he has been easing back into training. He has already participated in some sessions, and today, he will complete a full one,” Mascherano explained on Friday.

Inter Miami aims to maintain strong home form

Mascherano highlighted that despite playing only two home games at Chase Stadium so far this season, the team has shown encouraging performances. Against the Philadelphia Union, they will look to build on that momentum.

“I think we had a very strong home game against NYCFC on Matchday 1, where we probably deserved a different result, but things didn’t go our way. The match against Charlotte was another unique situation because we were down a man. Once we took the lead, we had to manage the game differently. Overall, though, I believe we’ve performed well at home,” Mascherano added.

Finally, the Inter Miami coach acknowledged the challenge posed by the Philadelphia Union, the current leaders of the Eastern Conference. He expects a tough contest as his side looks to claim three crucial points and take the top spot.

“They’ve had a fantastic start to the season and are very strong offensively, scoring plenty of goals. Their four attacking players are intense and aggressive, and that defines their team’s style. They are a physically demanding side that will surely come here looking to make things difficult for us,” Mascherano concluded.
