Messi: “Mexico is a great rival, they play really well”
The historic forward of the Argentine National Team spoke of the Tricolor and praised it prior to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The Argentine National Team is experiencing a good moment since it qualified for the Conmebol World Cup qualifier without any problem. It is currently one of the candidate teams to be the world champion in Qatar. A few weeks before the tournament starts, the planet’s two-time champion continues to have preparation matches to arrive confidently and physically well at the next World Cup tournament.
Last Friday, the South Americans faced Honduras in a friendly match. Unfortunately, the Catrachos lost to the Argentinians with goals by Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martínez. In an interview for TUDN, the current star of Paris Saint-Germain highlighted the qualities that the Mexican National Team has and made it clear that facing the Tricolor will be difficult due to the game system managed by the national team.
What does Messi think of Mexico?
“It is very important to start with a win. Then comes Mexico, a great rival that plays soccer very well. We have already faced them several times in World Cups and we know that they play very well, but we don’t think more than that, we have to go game by game. I think we have put together a nice team, very strong and we know how to play every game. The biggest difference is having the luck to win the Copa América. The World Cup it is very difficult, the small teams can leave you out of the tournament, but this team is here to compete and beat anyone”.
Moreover, the Albiceleste has 34 games without knowing defeat, 23 wins, and 11 ties. The last time the Argentine team lost a game was in the semifinal of the Copa América in the 2019 edition, when they fell against Brazil with goals from Gabriel Jesús and Roberto Firmino.
In its first match, the Argentine National Team in Qatar 2022 will face Saudi Arabia, where the South Americans start as wide favorites. Later they will face Mexico and finish the group stage playing against Robert Lewandowski’s Poland.
