Mexico interested in calling up Cade Cowell after obtaining citizenship
The San Jose Earthquakes ace is being closely monitored by representatives of the Mexican national team and remains open regarding his international career.
The Mexican national team is already thinking about the 2026 FIFA World Cup because they will be co-hosts alongside Canada and the United States. According to ESPN, San Jose Earthquakes’ Cade Cowell and his younger brother, Chance, are soon obtaining their Mexican citizenship through their maternal grandfather.
The pair are being followed by representatives of the Mexican national team and the brothers could be open to receive a call up. Cade Cowell already made his debut with the United States men’s national team last December coming off from the bench in the 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Cade Cowell already declined an invitation from Mexico
The San Jose Earthquakes ace is in his fourth season in Major League Soccer with seven goals and eight assists in 22 regular season appearances under his belt. Cade Cowell had a breakout season last year and he received an invitation to join training camp with Mexico’s youth national team, but decided to stay with the Earthquakes instead to fight for more minutes.
Before making his debut with the USMNT last December, Cowell was interviewed by MLSSoccer.com and asked him if the decision was made, but he answered: “It’s whoever wants me more and how I fit into their system best I guess. I haven’t really gotten looks from Mexico but the United States has been great to me.”
On the other hand, Chance Cowell is currently playing for the academy of Sacramento Republic from the USL Championship. The 13-year-old accepted the invitation from Mexico’s youth national team last month and he is in training camp with the U15 side.
