Edson Álvarez is set to join Premier League club West Ham from Ajax after the clubs reached an agreement over the transfer.

The London outfit will sign the Mexico international after he completes his medical, which according to Fabrizio Romano, will take place in the next 24 hours.

The player, who will join the club for a fee in the region of £35 million ($45m), agreed personal terms with the Hammers over the weekend.

Replacing Rice

West Ham have been looking for a replacement for midfielder Declan Rice, who left to join London rivals Arsenal.

Álvarez will become the fourth Mexican player to play for West Ham after Pablo Barrera, Guillermo Franco and Chicharito Hernández.

He was not called up for Ajax’s friendly against Borussia Dortmund with his move set to take place and his number 4 shirt has been given to defender Jorrel Hato.
