Mexico legend, 58, set to make stunning soccer comeback
As he closes in on his 60th birthday, a legendary Mexican goalkeeper has signed for a Spanish soccer club.
Legendary former Mexico and Pumas goalkeeper Jorge Campos is making a surprising soccer return. After years as a popular commentator on Mexican television, Campos is stepping back onto the pitch, though his exact role remains a mystery.
Which team has Campos joined?
Campos, affectionately known as “El Brody,” has signed with México FC, a Spanish club competing in the Tercera Federación - Spain’s fifth-tier league.
The division is split into 18 regional groups, all vying for promotion to the Segunda Federación. The Tercera Federación has 324 clubs in total.
Keeper of forward?
Despite being 58 years old, Campos was officially unveiled by the Madrid-based club on social media. Interestingly, the announcement didn’t specify his role with head coach Gonzalo Cuenca’s squad.
The promotional image simply read “goalkeeper or forward,” a nod to Campos’ famously versatile playing style during his career.
Should Campos take the field, he would become the oldest player not only on the team but likely in the entire league - 21 years older than his own head coach.
Still, with over 230 professional appearances under his belt and a legacy as one of Mexico’s most iconic players, Campos brings invaluable experience to a club that finished 13th out of 18 in its group during the 2024/25 season.
