The Mexican National Team already has a sparring partner to prepare for the Final Four of the Concacaf Nations League. The team is Cameroon, who they will face on June 10, at the recently opened Snapdragon Stadium, in San Diego, California. The match will be the first of Diego Cocca’s management within the Mextour (the annual tour that the FMF organises in the US through Soccer United Marketing) and the game will be the top friendly that El Tri will hold before facing the United States in the Nations League semifinals, just five days later in Las Vegas.

Mexico will return to San Diego, one of a few destinations in the States with good memories, where they last played on March 22, 2019, in the first game of Gerardo Martino’s era as head coach. About 50,000 fans gathered at Qualcomm Stadium, later demolished, to witness the Mexican victory over Chile, in Tata’s full debut, with goals from Raúl Jiménez, Héctor Moreno and Hirving Lozano. Opening to the public in 2022, Snapdragon Stadium was built on land formerly occupied by Qualcomm, which was also home to the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.

What happened the last time Mexico played against Cameroon?

Mexico and Cameroon have only played two matches against each other in their shared history. The most recent game was during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil; on that occasion, Oribe Peralta’s rebound on the hour mark was enough to seal a 1-0 tricolor victory in Natal in a game that saw Dos Santos have two goals ruled out.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández, who recently broke his silence on his national team time out, was a late substitute in that game; for the upcoming fixture, we will have to see if Diego Cocca calls up the LA Galaxy striker after a four-year absence.

Tickets for the third match between the two teams will go on sale on Monday, May 8, at 1 p.m., ET, through the website SomosLocales.com. Ticket prices have not yet been made public.
