Mexico vs Peru: match preview

As Mexico get ready for their eighth straight appearance at a World Cup finals, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s men are in the US for a double-header of warm-up friendlies against South American opposition. Before taking on Colombia in Santa Clara on Tuesday, the Mexicans begin with a Rose Bowl clash against a Peru side that narrowly missed out on Qatar 2022, losing on penalties to Australia in an inter-confederation playoff.

It’ll be Mexico and Peru’s first meeting since June 2015, when Juan Carlos Valenzuela’s late equaliser cancelled out Jefferson Farfán’s opener to earn El Tri a draw in Lima.

The Peruvians are also on a mini-US tour: next up for Juan Máximo Reynoso’s side is a clash with El Salvador in Washington, D.C., also on Tuesday.
