Michael Carrick reportedly to be offered a two year contract by Manchester United

As we approach the end of the Premier League, one of the biggest questions around Old Trafford surrounds the future of interim manager Michael Carrick.

Update:

There are just two weeks left in the Premier League season, and Manchester United are heading into what is shaping up to be a busy summer. There will be plenty of decisions made surrounding the future of the club, starting on the touchline.

Carrick’s future sorted soon

Michael Carrick seems to have won just about everyone over at Old Trafford but we are still waiting for an official announcement concerning the long term manager of the club. Carrick took over in January after the firing of Ruben Amorim, and made an immediate impact on the player, club and results. It appears that after a fantastic end to the season, the board is ready to entrust their former midfielder with a long term deal.

Reports out of Manchester claim that United are ready to offer Carrick a two year deal. He came in and won 10 of the final 15 matches, drawing three and losing two as the Red Devils soared up the standings and clinched a Champions League spot. After what is certain to be a top three finish, Carrick is all but guaranteed to be handed a contract extension.

Experts, pundits, and ex-players all appear to be in agreement. Even Carrick himself is convinced that his future will be sorted within the next few weeks. “The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon. We knew that was going to be towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season, so nothing’s changed,” said the United boss.

Carrick to stay, Case to go?

Whether he receives the contract that he has been openly desiring, Carrick is ready to send the fans a post match message following the game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. “I think that’s important, regardless of the situation. I think it’s important because of the supporters, and we thank them, and I certainly thank them for the season and the support, and certainly in the last four months, for however long it’s been for me personally,” said the current interim manager.

Carrick knows how important it is to connect with the fans after playing at Manchester United for 12 years. He won five league titles and a Champions League at United, and Carrick knows these are the seasons when fans need the appreciation of the players and the coaches more than ever. “So I think it’s important that we have that anyway. So, certainly, for us to thank the fans, and for me to thank the fans for that is important,” said Carrick.

Finding a permanent on the touchline isn’t the only order of business to tend to this summer. There are some transfers that will surely be made, but none more important that replacing one of the rocks in the midfield. Casemiro is headed towards the exit ramp at Old Trafford, and that will be a top priority for the Red Devils. Before they look for a replacement, the fans will be sure to thank the Brazilian for his service after four years at Manchester United.
